The Damage and the Loss

The number of business commercial identity theft is growing from year to year. In the past, identity theft was a sophisticated kind of crime that could only be done by the experts and the professional. But as time goes by and technology develops and is getting easier each day, anyone with computer knowledge and with the help from computer programs can always commit such crimes. It’s no wonder that the rate of ID theft is always increasing from time to time. People can get great benefits from their online system, but the same system can also bring problems, if the users aren’t careful. Sometimes, they still fall victims for such crime although they have been very careful about everything. It’s a problem that needs handling right away.

Business Commercial Identity Theft: Two Main Categories of ID Theft
According to ID theft experts, there’re basically two main categories in the business commercial identity theft. They are:
  • Account takeover. The thief will steal the victim’s identity and pose as him in order to get access to the victim’s accounts. For example, person A steals person B’s info and pose as him so he can get into more of person B’s accounts. By doing so, person A can buy things and order stuffs by using person B’s credit card and change the mail address so the bills won’t show up at person B’s house.
  • True name theft. The thief will use the victim’s identity in order to open up new bank account or credit card. The thief basically only needs the victim’s personal identity number – such as social security number or the identity number – in order to establish new accounts for himself. The thief doesn’t money from the victims, but he will use his victim’s name and credibility to set up scam or other criminal acts.
Both of these actions are disadvantages for the victims, of course. For business owners, such action can really scar their good names.

Business Commercial Identity Theft: Different Types of ID Theft
There’re still other types of ID thefts that are usually done by the thief, such as:
  • Financial ID theft. The thief is using the stolen ID in order to gain benefits and advantages, especially in financial aspects. They may use the stolen ID to order stuffs, buy houses, book vacation trips, and so many more.
  • Criminal ID theft. The thief is using the stolen ID and presents it to the law enforcement so the police may catch the wrong person.
  • Medical ID theft. The thief is using the stolen ID to get medical benefits and health care.
  • Business commercial identity theft. The thief is using the stolen ID from the business owners to do illegal stuffs that can really hurt and damage the credibility of the victims.

Business Commercial Identity Theft: How to Deal with It?
So far, people can only report to the police if they suspect that they’ve become victims of ID theft. But until now, there’s no solid law that can really help the victims. Sometimes the victims will stay remain as the victims. It would be better if laws protecting the victims of business commercial identity theft are starting to create.
